Welcome to the December Issue of Reiki News & Views
Reiki blessings to you all for December and the new year! A huge welcome to all our new readers this month and thank you to those who have supported the newsletter throughout 2009.
The newsletter is now sent out to well over a hundred recipients and we've had some great feedback from you. Thank you!
Although we celebrate specific things at specific times of the year, I don't think we should have to look for an excuse to celebrate. I made a deal with myself, not so long ago, that every day I would do something to celebrate the life I have been given to live. I did a little dance to jingle bells this morning, it made me laugh out loud! then I went to meet some friends I hadn't seen for a year and had a lovely breakfast to celebrate our lasting friendship. Every moment is a moment worth celebrating.
I just love this time of year, especially those moments when everything appears to stand still. I sense a blanket of deep stillness that sweeps over the land, a misty air.
This morning was a fine example, the sky was a dusty pink and a light misty air hugged the estuary and everything was quiet, the earth was in silent contemplation.
I have been amazed over the last few weeks how chirpy the birds have sounded, their song guzzles up any hint of glumness that might have been lurking, owing to the cold and wet. Birdsong is like finding a flower blooming in a dessert, a kiss in the midst of dispair.
The mornings have brought grand displays of spiders webs, holding small droplets of rain, glistening like snowflakes suspended in time, natures perfect christmas decorations! Celebrations and Jubilations, what an awesome spectacle.
Celebrate every day, send Reiki before you so that while you're out and about your eyes and ears are alert for the beauty that lies right there before you. What will you see that you've never seen before? Expect the unexpected.
May your Christmas be filled with sparkle, love, light and joy. Stand tall, smile big!

Manifestation or magic?
Several years ago I had the most wonderful experience of Manifestation, which I have put down to sheer determination, rewarded with magic.
I was working in London at the time and started developing severe computer stress which involved very painful eye-strain. I decided I wanted to get out of London and really fancied the idea of working the ski season in the Alps. I wrote to all the tour companies and the few that bothered to reply said I was 'far too late, the season was about to start, try again next year'. My Aunt, was equally pessimistic and told my mum I had no chance of working in Europe because my languages wern't good enough.
But I was determined. Although I got no joy with my job applications I went to the Earls Court Ski Show, bought a gorgeous new red ski jacket and hung it in my bedroom as a mascot. I then bought an airline ticket (Manchester to Genevea) from a bucket shop in Tottenham Court Road and packed in my job. Soon after I drove home (back up North) in preparation for my flight to Geneva a week later.
I had this mad idea that I would walk the streets of Geneva, knock on hotel doors and somehow find a job. I was not long back from a world trip so was used to hostel notice boards filled with offers, ideas and opportunities. As it turned out Geneva youth hostel and its notice boaard, like Geneva itself, was empty and cold.
But the cold Geneva experience turned out to be of no concern: Only an hour after arriving 'home' (back up north) the phone rang. It was for me! I was surprised, who would be calling me there, I hadn't lived at home for many years? The man on the phone said "My name is Theo Hickey, I have a hotel in the Southern French Alps and am looking for staff".
He hired me on the phone and his hotel (nestled in a wonderful ski area) was mainly for english holiday makers so I didnt even need languages (apart from the 'Chocolat Chaud' request in the mountain cafes!). I had a wonderful time, worked there two seasons, and even secured jobs for my friend and sister in the second year as well.
Looking back it feels like a bit of bravery was involved as well, but I reckon determination was the key to Manifestation! Although there definately was magic involved in there somewhere.

Conversation within Reiki sessions -Metaphors for healing
When you chat to people before reiki, the question, “ how do you feel ?” comes up. Often the reply will come as a metaphor.
“ Ohh I feel like a bag of frogs all jumping about”
“ I feel like I’m floating on air “
“ I feel like a balloon with lead legs”
It seems a natural way to explain exactly how we feel, which is more detailed, personal and accurate than a lot of other language.
It can be useful to stick with these descriptions when working with people, to describe things as they do, to reflect on how that bag of frogs feels after a session of reiki.
Concentrating on the unique language of the individual helps in the healing process. I’ve explored this through the use of Focusing techniques developed by Eugene Gendlin as a support to conversation with clients.
Gendlin’s theory looks at all issues being primarily emotional, also that an awareness of these feelings in a metaphorical sense can help us to develop a deeper relationship with our bodies, enabling us to acquire answers about our state of health.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_Gendlin
It’s fascinating and colourful to hear how we can each put a finger on the precise description of our emotions. We feel in such a spectrum of emotions, but it’s far more powerful than that as this story illustrates.
Bunny rabbits and cancer carrots
Peter Hettel was diagnosed with cancer of the sinus. Following surgery his cancer returned, and so he started working with imagery and symbol. Peter discovered that his white immune cells were like "bunny rabbits feasting on fields of orange cancer-carrots, which increased their energy and sex-drive, which made them have sex and make more bunnies, who were also hungry to eat more." One morning he realised to his surprise that he couldn't find enough carrots for all his rabbits! A few weeks later he literally spat out his tumour. His doctor said "It was like his body had rejected a foreign object, like a transplant rejection, just expelled from his body. I can't account for it."

To see if this style of talking about problems might suit you, how about experiencing the process for yourself right now in 5 easy steps, it takes only a few moments.
Know that:
YOUR BODY KNOWS ALL YOUR ISSUES AND WHERE THE CRUX OF THESE LIE.
With each of these steps comes a felt sense of release, if it doesn’t back up a bit, your going to fast.
1. Breath, relax and pay attention inwardly to your chest and stomach. See what comes up there.
ASK “What’s the main feeling for me right now?”
ASK “What else is there?“
E.g. a sense of worry, business, agitation, restlessness, hamster on a treadmill, elation, confinement, stiffness and restricted movement, with it sits sadness, grief, crying and a wanting to let go, to feel the flow of energy and a release of emotion.
Sometimes several aspects crop up when using this exercise, select one situation or feeling to focus on. Today allow space for one issue. Acknowledge the others, as they can have your attention anther time. Remember that the absence of emotion is also a feeling – emptiness.
2. Get a felt sense of the whole situation and what that feels like.
Don’t let your mind dive into the issue, stand back and get a sense of the various parts of the one problem. Feel all the parts together, letting yourself perceive the unclear sense of all of that. Sense all that it holds.
ASK “Is it spiky, is it sluggish, fluffy, frustrating, round, hard? “
ASK “Is there a sense of something else there – loneliness, annoyance, anxiety, guilt fear? “
Feel what’s underneath.
3. Get a handle on the issue.
Get a sense of the mass of feelings that go with this….emptiness… or tightness. Offer up words, phrases or images that give you a sense of how it feels. The words you try out may change until you find one which feels just right. See if there is a bodyily sensation within you that lets you know the key word which resonates completely with the mass of feeling as a whole.
E.g. perhaps the whole picture feels like a gate with a un-oiled hinge, a violin with a string too tight, chaos, tender, spaghetti.
4. Ask for more information. Here are some examples.
“In this feeling how old am I, and what is happening around me?”
“What makes the whole problem so ……………?”
“What’s the crux of this …...?”
“What’s the worst of this ……….?”
“What is under this?”
“What needs to happen to me with this …….?”
“What would it take to feel better?”
“What must change for this difficulty to feel completely solved?”
“What’s in the way of feeling completely solved?”
“What would completely solved feel like?”
TELL YOURSELF NOTHING.
WAIT AND LET YOUR BODY REPLY.
LISTEN TO YOUR BODY AND YOU’LL FEEL A FELT SHIFT AND RELEASE OF EMOTION.
5. Receiving with grace and thanks.
Welcome and receive in a friendly way whatever comes. You need not do anything, just receive with thanks and enjoy the sense of relief at knowing where the trouble is and that it has been witnessed.

Elizabeth Gilert quotes in her instruction for freedom,
“ Life’s metaphors are God’s instructions”
God energy, universal energy, reiki, healing, the human experience and the divine, I’ve no doubt after my own experiences and reading information from others that witnessing and working with metaphors can be a deeply healing journey.

Beaming
When giving a Reiki treatment it’s usual to practice it by using the hands, however there are other options. Some time ago I was fortunate enough to try out a method of beaming Reiki with my feet, a fantastic energetic experience!
Firstly lay on the floor with your feet slightly apart, the other person lies directly opposite you, with their feet facing you and in direct alignment. The feet can touch each other or can remain at a distance apart; the main thing is the intention to send Reiki to the other person. By practicing this method it seems to create a circuit of Reiki energy.
However you channel Reiki the all important thing to remember is that intention is everything. As long as you hold the intention to channel healing with love and for the highest good then it will happen and everything else is taken care of by the intelligent energy that healing energy is.
GYOSHI HO is a method of healing using the eyes. Sometimes it’s just not practical to give Reiki with our hands, due to a variety of circumstances. In these situations it’s good to know that it doesn’t stop the patient being able to experience Reiki. Reiki can be channelled or beamed using our eyes as well as our hands. Connect to Reiki in the usual way and focus your eyes on the person who will be receiving the Reiki. Don’t stare menacingly at the person, as obviously this will have the direct opposite effect to the healing they require! Use soft focus to gaze at the person and direct Reiki to their body. Focus your mind on Reiki, the energy of love and healing that it is. Feel love and compassion in your heart.
You can imagine it flowing from your eyes, like a beam of light radiating in and around the individuals body, being absorbed directly where it’s needed.
Reiki is directed by Universal energies far more intelligent than you can ever imagine. Your intention is the on button; then you are free to expand your Reiki practice by expanding your experiences of Reiki, there are no limits because Reiki is love.

Open the door to joy
Feeling full of joy and reflecting this out to the world around you is a great way to bring healing into your own life and the lives of those around you.
Still your mind, body and spirit.
Breathe deeply and relax.
You are aware that in your hand you have a small bag; in that bag is a selection of balloons, they are all different colours.
You notice the way they look, the texture and the bag that they’re contained in. They’re all shapes and sizes, some of them are crazy shapes and make you smile.
When you’re ready, decide what’s stopping JOY being let loose inside you.
Say to yourself “I release………….” Fill in the gap with whatever it is that you feel prevents you from feeling joyful.
Blow into the balloon and inflate it, whilst doing this you feel every ounce of the thing that you are releasing being expelled into the balloon. Don’t worry how big the balloon gets it won’t burst or hurt you.
When you’re ready you tie the balloon and release it into the Universe.
Watch as the balloon floats away into the sky, higher and higher into the Universe.
As each balloon reaches higher and higher you see it explode and all that was inside turns into sparkly particles of joy and millions of tiny Reiki symbols/ energy particles which fill the sky with Love, Light and joyful healing. The air around you becomes infused with this lovely Reiki healing energy.
Once you have let go of all that you feel needs to be released, relax and breathe in the healing energy of Reiki. See and feel the energy filling you up and taking the place of what's been released. Feel yourself filling with joy.
smile.
Imagine the smile growing, bigger and bigger filling your mind. Smile, smile, smile.
Feel your whole body from your head down to your toes filling up with this bubbly, happy feeling of joyfulness and smile from the inside out.

Stuck in a queue, what shall I do............
Queuing is a popular pastime during December and the months leading up to the Christmas period. Rather than allowing the time to pass by in frustration use the opportunity to take a few moments and change your awareness.
Stand still and hold the intention that you are relaxed and calm. Give thanks that you are being given this moment to be still and to just be. Breathe and just be, knowing that for a short while you aren’t required to do anything or go anywhere.
Be aware of the sounds around you, don’t listen, just let the sounds come and go, without making any mental comment or judgement about them.
Look around you slowly, seeing all that’s around you, but again not making any mental notes or remarks.
Be aware of just being, be a peaceful and motionless point. As thoughts arise just let them come and go, making no comment or judgement. Breathe and let your mind relax.

Chakra Balancing
Connect to Reiki in your usual way.
Start this exercise with the clear intention that the chakra are balanced and perfectly healthy.
Stand central to the person that you are working with, the body face upwards and your arms apart.
Hold one hand above the Third Eye Chakra and the other hand above the Root Chakra.
Wait until you feel a balance in both areas.
When I've practiced this exercise I have seen myself as a scales, watching as each side steadily balances out, when they appear evenly balanced i know that its time for me to move my hands to the next area. From your own experiences you may have a feeling of just knowing that the areas feel balanced or you may have an energetic feeling of balance in your hands. Listen carefully to your intuition, this will help to guide you.
Leave one hand above the Brow area and move the other hand over each of the other Chakras one by one: The Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart and Throat.
Don’t hurry, feel and sense the energy balancing.
This can be done as a treatment on its own, or at the end of a full treatment. You can also use this as a self treatment.
Silence
"The trees, the flowers, the plants grow in silence.
The stars, the sun, the moon move in silence.
Silence gives us a new perspective."

New Awakening Promotes Your Happiness
Welcome to New Awakening Reiki Healing.
We have created a new affordable spiritual resource to help you on your spiritual journey. Our multimedia home study material has been designed to create a successful individual with a compassionate heart, enabling you to 'Create the Life of Your Dreams'.
There are four books in this series which interlink with each other to complete a new system of spiritual awakening using Reiki in a new way. This spiritual resource creates a bridge from where you are now to the experience of 'Oneness'. Spiritual Attunements and MP3 tutorials are also part of this new process. For a complete explanation about this unique system for today's spiritual age please read the introduction you will find in ‘The Key’ at www.new-awakening.co.uk
.
Reiki Master and Teacher Handbook
(Includes ‘The Lotus Sutra’ as practiced by Dr. Usui)
How to transfer the Reiki Attunements and how to teach Reiki is also contained within the second section of the Reiki Master and Teacher Handbook. We also provide you with FREE VIDEO TUTORIALS which can be viewed from our website.
The ‘New Awakening Spiritual System’ consists of Five Stages of Development with Seven Spiritual Openings. The three Reiki Healing courses create a bridge between the human physical body and the higher self. You will experience six attunements during your transformation that will awaken your chakras to Unconditional Love. The main difference with this approach and western Reiki is in the use of the Reiki second degree symbols.
With each book there are affordable MP3 Audio tutorials, music and meditations, which deepen the learning experience. When the MP3 sets are listened to repeatedly, they have a transformative effect upon the listener. The 'Ah Ha' moments just keep coming over and over again. What could not be understood through reading alone becomes an enlightenment experience as the changes in consciousness occur at the soul level of awareness. This together with the spiritual attunement transforms the knowledge into spiritual understanding within the soul of the individual. Please enjoy this new Reiki resource and have fun.
